Did you know? The London College of Fashion began life in 1906 as the Shoreditch Technical Institute Girls’ School—one of three London County Council trade schools for women in dressmaking, millinery and tailoring—and, following a series of mergers and renamings, was officially titled the London College of Fashion in 1974. It joined the London Institute in 1986 and became a constituent college of the University of the Arts London in 2004, pioneering research in sustainable design, digital innovation and fashion business practice. Today, its reputation for nurturing creative talent is such that Edgar Wright’s 2021 thriller Last Night in Soho features a heroine who moves to London specifically to study at LCF, underscoring the college’s real-world status as a launchpad for emerging designers.
